Her drive to succeed stems from a hardscrabble childhood. When she was 13, her family moved 1,000 miles to Los Angeles so that she could properly pursue an acting career. They ended up broke, in a motel (“My mum and I shared a bed and my dad and little brother shared a couch”). Her parents divorced and she doubled down on her dreams, hoping her success would reunite the family.
After winning parts in shows such as Grey’s Anatomy, Pretty Little Liars and The Handmaid’s Tale, she scored a part in a 2018 Netflix show called Everything Sucks! and hasn’t paused for breath since. “I worked my f***ing ass off for ten years for this,” she told The Hollywood Reporter.
In recent years, she has collaborated with the fashion brands Miu Miu, Armani and swimwear business Frankies Bikinis (to create its “sexiest collection yet”). “If I just acted, I wouldn’t be able to afford my life in LA,” said Sweeney, claiming that she couldn’t take a six-month break from work because of financial demands.
